From Gung Ho! Films Manila:
Jason’s animated short, An Elegy For Eden, is a sci-fi-fantasia that uses alternative methods of stop-motion puppetry and practical effects animation, to create a surreal expression of the view of life from inside a pixel at the moment it burns out. It recently won Best Short Film at AMFM Fest in Coachella Valley, California. It premiered internationally at the Festival de Cine de Lima in Peru, was in competition at the Slamdance Film Festival, and will be at the Woods Hole Film Festival in July. His thesis, liFErrous, is another experimental film, which explores the use of the magnetic liquid and animating with electromagnetism!
Take this opportunity to learn more about stop-motion and other methods of animation — and how YOU can use it for your next project as Jason shares his works and performs a live demo for everyone, only at !Gung Ho. See you July 4 at 7pm at !Gung Ho!

Jazz Thursday: Bio Logic, experimental/hip hop/jazz
July 18, 2013 12:00:00 AM
The groundbreaking and all-star collaboration between some of the best musicians in their fields, the origins of Bio Logic was a concept experimental jazz band, born in the mind of Andrew Dixon, Chicagoan saxophonist known for his wild, fluttering turns and speed through scales. Then still named "Bionic Brass" (though much to Dixon's unease, as there were no brass instruments being played, only reeds) it was largely a full-on improvisational band, based on electronic sounds and beats.
In March, 2013, he approached Garch of heygarch.com with the concept and they agreed to play at 121 Allegro on Pasong Tamo Extension. He presented the idea with the aid of a YouTube video, recorded a "Horny Night" at B-Side. The video on YouTube show him playing two saxophones at once amidst the electronic and deep chill backing of Paolo Garcia on the MPC and Caliph8, with Yuna Reguerra on bass and Reli de Vera on drums.
They had one gig at 121 Allegro (Allen Umali subbed for Reguerra) which was well-received, and led to a regular 3rd Thursday slot.
However, due to personal reasons, that was to be the last gig Dixon had with the band, and in 121. Dixon returned to the US on an extended leave of absence, and left the concept band in the hands of Garcia, who recruited Rick Countryman, musical director of QC jazz club Balete@Kamias to replace Dixon on saxophone, and the next session, Kakoy Legaspi joined the band the following Thursday on guitar; next month, the final player, Niki Cabardo (piano) joined, making it a six-piece.
Musicians who have been invited to jam have been Wendell Garcia (drums) and Erwin Fajardo (keys).
Their gigs are noted for their marathon-qualities, playing two spells of two-hour sets, lasting well into the night. The loose, but highly-communicative collaboration between players is so harmonious that all genres are discovered and covered along the way in a "no stone unturned" fashion. Band members are also known to trade instruments, with Legaspi picking up the bass, Cabardo going on flute, and Garcia on drums.
To put the stamp of true experimentation on the band, Bio Logic have taken to projecting movies onto the stage, giving the performance a ghostly feeling, as their ambient and exploratory riffs and turns are overlaid with fleeting images from obscure movies.
